I am me
just a tree
got no branches
completely free

got a trunk
like a hunk
straight and tall
as you can see

got no sun
got no shade
no grass below
not a blade

not a bird
not a nest
not a squirrel
aint that best?

when i think
of i am me
is my life just this to be
got no shade and got no sun
got no merry and got no fun?

then i see inside me
inside me is i am me
world there is inside me
where the sun is tender as can be
the air is cool and the shade is soft
the bird-is-in-the-nest in the loft
my branches do reach far and wide
many-a-stories-they do hide!!
my leaves do wander oer the land
dropping seeds in mud and sand
in sand do my seeds sprout and grow
to make a land soft and glow
with meat in my fruit and tender shoot
my shade is worth a manly loot...
